Former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf has upped the anti in his feud with Anfield legend Steven Gerrard.
After telling the BBC he had no problem with his old teammate, he went on to have a dig at the former Liverpool and England captain, saying: “Gerrard is a strong character and I am a strong character. ‘Stevie G’ was a very good player, people like him in Liverpool but he never did anything for his country.
“I am Mr El Hadji Diouf, Mr Senegal but he is Mr Liverpool and Senegal is bigger than Liverpool and he has to know that.”
The spat follows his claims from last November when he argued that Gerrard was “nothing at all” when he first joined Liverpool from Lens.
Diouf spent three seasons contracted to Liverpool from 2002 until 2005, spending one on loan at Bolton, and didn’t appear to fit in with many of his teammates, especially Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. But the feeling was mutual.
