The Sugarcane Directorate head Andrew Osodo says that sugarcane millers face a 10 million shillings fine each if they will not have applied for the renewal of their milling licenses by Friday 15 July.
Mr. Osodo said as of Friday only four millers had been issued with the licence, they include Chemelil, Kiboss Refinery, Butali and Transmara.
Seven Sugarcane factories have not yet renewed their licenses and are operating illegally among them the biggest player of all, Mumias Sugar Company.
Millers are by the new condition required to make agreement with the farmers that they are going to harvest their cane on time and also state the exact amount of money that farmers will be paid per tone when they sell their sugarcane.
